Interior Architectural Design Proposal for Roots at Meateang Resort

Chiang Mai has been known as a “City of Coffee” since it has a complete range of businesses relating to coffee. First being the “Upstream”, agriculture land that highly suits geologically and climatically for growing coffee. Second, “Midstream”, a wide range of specialty coffee businesses throughout Chiang Mai. Lastly, “Downstream”, an upcoming coffee-drinking culture that has been growing rapidly consisting of local consumers, incoming visitors, and coffee people. All in all, making Chiang Mai a successful prototype for a “City of Coffee” having a neighboring distance within 2-4 hours from producers to the cups of coffee drank by consumers. Therefore, the province of Chiang Mai has been encouraging Chiang Mai to be a central city for Coffee Culture for ASEAN emphasizing coffee tourism through local productions sightseeing making it become “Cultural Coffee Tourism”.

ROOTS at Maeteang, the Village of Coffee Journey is Coffee Resort that includes residential area and coffee experiencing space with an objective to make the project as a storyteller and coffee culture generator to offer a new easy to approach and sustainable coffee experiencing. Starting from the roots’ base of Thai specialty coffee through the main protagonist as “The Village of Coffee Journey”, a collective learning accommodations through collaborating with local farmers collecting coffee cherries in fields or “ไร่”, observing the process of wetmill and drymill on yards or “ลาน”, green coffee bean drying in an enclosed building or “โรง” and finally into roastery through “Rai”, “Laan”, “Rong” adapting them in the design concept through space / tectonic / lighting as a identity of the project.
